A Dream Comes True
In 1958 a dream and a desire for reform merged in a synergy that
created Pilgrim School. Dr. James Fifield, Senior Minister (1935 - 1967)
at the First Congregational Church in Los Angeles, dreamed of a Christian
school as the church's most important mission, and parents at the school
became increasingly disenchanted with the progressivism of public schools,
such as the abandoning of phonics in the teaching of reading.
We Know Where We're Going!
Pilgrim is all the stronger for the durability of its original mission.
The school was created to teach high moral standards, a traditional curriculum,
and love of country. Times have changed, but these "old-fashioned" ideals
still infuse the school with a sense of purpose. The school delightfully
combines a Gothic Revival cathedral, beautiful chapels, a European architectural
flavor with a student body representative of contemporary Los Angeles.
We're Tomorrow's School Today!
The diversity of our student body is the envy of independent schools.
Our diversity occurred historically on its own, without benefit of social
engineering. Hence, Pilgrim enjoys the stability of institutions whose
change is organic and gradual.
We Know What We're Doing!
At Pilgrim solid foundational learning, morals, and athletics is free
from the latest classroom fads. We provide simple common sense, loving
care,
and lots
of old-fashioned wisdom. That's how we nurture
your
child.
