Admissions Process

Admission applications are due by January 31st. We consider qualified applicants year round, as space becomes available during the school year. Our admissions process takes into consideration the personal as well as academic qualities of each applicant.

Application Checklist

To apply to Pilgrim School, you will need:

  • To contact our Admissions Department (213) 385-7351 x355 to schedule a tour of the school
  • An application form
  • A non-refundable application fee of $100
  • Two recommendation forms from the previous school
  • School transcripts, grades, and standardized test scores

Entrance assessment:

  • Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten Applicants
    Participate in a developmentally appropriate screening assessment .
  • 1st-4th Grade Applicants
    Take an assessment, designed by Pilgrim School covering reading comprehension and math skills.
  • 5th-12th Grade Applicants
    Take the ISEE exam, submit a writing sample/essay, and an interview with the Admissions Director and/or the Head of School.

Kindergarten Applicants

Must be five years old before September 1st of the year of entry, and must demonstrate school readiness and the maturity to benefit from a full-day program. Exceptions on the age requirement can be made based upon the child’s performance and school readiness.

We offer a Junior Kindergarten Program to allow more time for the child to develop socially and emotionally. For our preschool program a parent/child interview is arranged.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available on a limited basis, and is awarded on the basis of need. Applicants who feel they need financial help are encouraged to apply.

Admission notification is the 3rd week in March on a date agreed upon by CAIS schools.
