volunteerhoursWhat Counts Towards My Volunteer Hours?

Each family needs to do 30 volunteer hours per school year.  The time period is from March 31 - March 31.  This means you can put hours you earn after March 31 and during the summer towards the next school year's.    Volunteering is a great way to meet other parents and have fun. Studies have shown that the more active parents are in the student's school, the more involved students are with their studies and their school community.

There are a number of committees for which you can volunteer.  Chaperoning class field trips, helping in the classroom, cooking for the faculty luncheons are also ways to take care of volunteer hours.  Attending a TAPPS meeting, which we highly recommend, counts as a volunteer hour.  It is important to keep track of your hours and turn them in at the front office.  We are working on developing an online tracking system for hours, but have not found the perfect solution yet.  We will keep you posted.

Donations for the silent auction or hosting  parties for the party book can be tax deductible but do not count towards volunteer hours.   Party Book parties, though they do not count toward volunteer hours, do build community, creativity, and scholarship funds.

IMPORTANT!
African-American History Month Needs Volunteers NOW!
We especially need a Lead Curator or Co-Curators for the
Pilgrim School African American History Museum
.
(earn a lot of volunteer hours and do a great service for our students) This Museum has been a great a success and generated positive press for Pilgrim in the past two years and we want to keep it going! We need someone (YOU!) to spear head the effort. Responsibilities are: 1) to collect the donated and loaned Pilgrim parent artifacts, educational materials, videos, multimedia, periodicals, etc.
the items will be kept and locked at Pilgrim until the museum is over.
2) a day to set up the museum in the basement hallways and meeting room at Pilgrim (museum will run for a week, tentatively: Monday Feb 20- Sunday Feb 26)
3) designate a day for parents to collect their loaned items and to take down the museum
There are already volunteers who will assist you but we need someone to take charge and exercise their creativity! ALSO: Be on the lookout for more opportunities to help out for Pilgrim's celebration of African American History Month.
