Parent Volunteer Opportunities

January, 2012

IMPORTANT!
African-American History Month Needs Volunteers NOW!
We especially need a Lead Curator or Co-Curators for the
Pilgrim School African American History Museum
.
(earn a lot of volunteer hours and do a great service for our students) This Museum has been a great a success and generated positive press for Pilgrim in the past two years and we want to keep it going! We need someone (YOU!) to spear head the effort. Responsibilities are: 1) to collect the donated and loaned Pilgrim parent artifacts, educational materials, videos, multimedia, periodicals, etc.
the items will be kept and locked at Pilgrim until the museum is over.
2) a day to set up the museum in the basement hallways and meeting room at Pilgrim (museum will run for a week, tentatively: Monday Feb 20- Sunday Feb 26)
3) designate a day for parents to collect their loaned items and to take down the museum
There are already volunteers who will assist you but we need someone to take charge and exercise their creativity! ALSO: Be on the lookout for more opportunities to help out for Pilgrim's celebration of African American History Month. Afternoon in the Garden

Dear Parents,
We are so excited about the upcoming Afternoon In the Garden. Our event will take place in the historic Davis-Yust Garden in Hancock Park/Windsor Square on Saturday, April 28, 2012: Make sure to mark it in your calendar as the must-attend event of the season.

Elementary School Parents: This week make sure to check your child’s book bag or backpack to receive your copy of the Afternoon In The Garden auction packet.  Additional copies of donation forms are available as pdfs from our website, www.pilgrim-school.org

Middle and High School Parents: check your mailbox for your auction packet.

We are asking for your help in making this our most successful event ever. We need you to:
•    Consider becoming an event sponsor (two tickets will be included in your sponsorship)
•    Donate auction items, goods or services
•    Solicit auction items from your favorite retail and restaurant venues

If you have a vacation home, a favorite jewelry designer, a favorite restaurant, or theater, sports or concert tickets, we would love to offer it as an auction item!

Please fill out the donation form and drop it off at the front desk. Funds raised will help to provide much-needed scholarships to students, and provide support to the Elementary Science Center.

Thank you for your generosity and enthusiasm in supporting our wonderful school!

Auction Chair

Parents are vital to the success of Pilgrim School. There are lots of ways to use your skills and time to help.

TAPPS Officers

President, Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer coordinate TAPPS activities and programs and serve as liaisons to school leadership.

Classroom Representatives

We want to thank in advance all the parents who have made the commitment to being a class rep!  The Class Representative plays an important role in many aspects of Pilgrim School life, serving as both a liaison between teachers and parents, and TAPPS and parents. The Class Rep attends the TAPPS meetings, keeps the class informed as to upcoming events, coordinates the grade morning drop-off volunteer schedule, organizes the faculty luncheon, and is responsible for collecting money from his/her class for the Annual Fund, as well as for teacher gifts and any special occasions.

Other Ways to Help

Parents may also volunteer to assist faculty and staff in the libraries, or by chaperoning field trips and social events, and in many other ways.

Parents of students involved in special projects such as sports or the Dance or Drama Programs, and other such activities, will be asked to support those projects in various ways, such as providing meals for the participants, transportation, etc.

Another great way parents can contribute is by volunteering goods or services, such as printing, furnishings, and audio-visual equipment, that have been listed on the school Wish List.
