Community Service

Community service is an essential part of each student's education and development. Through community service, students learn invaluable, lifelong skills and values. They are given an opportunity to share and grow in ways not always possible within the traditional classroom setting. In order to encourage and foster the moral-character development of every student, Pilgrim School assists in arranging volunteer opportunities for all students.

Student volunteers work under a supervisor in various activities approved by the Director of Student Life. Students in the Upper School from grades 9 to 12 are required to perform at least 20 hours of community service per year. All Upper School grade levels record and submit their volunteer service hours at the end of each semester.

Volunteer opportunities have included students as peer-tutors, student aides, after school-care assistants, campus guides, and cafeteria helpers. Off-Campus opportunities have included visits to homeless shelters, hospitals, food pantries; participation in school sponsored charity fundraisers, and/or individually designed projects. Information for volunteer opportunities is provided throughout the school year.

"At Pilgrim, teachers and students get the chance to develop strong bonds to work together towards a common goal."
