Community Service

Community service is an essential part of each student’s education and development. Through community service students learn important, lifelong skills and values. They have the opportunity to share and develop in ways not always possible within the traditional classroom setting. In order to encourage and foster the moral-character development of every student, Pilgrim School assists in arranging volunteer opportunities for all students.

Janet Arribas is the school coordinator for community service. Students in grades 9 to 12 are required to perform at least 20 hours of community service per year. Students will submit their volunteer hour sheets to the coordinator for tabulation during the course of the year.

There are many opportunities for students to fulfill their community service hours on campus. These include, but are not limited to, peer tutoring, aiding teachers and administrators, helping with open houses and other school functions. Off campus opportunities have included visits to homeless shelters, hospitals, food pantries, and participation in school sponsored charity fund-raisers. Students are encouraged to find projects that they can be enthusiastic about, these can be in coordination with their church or youth group or they can be individually designed.

Pilgrim School works with Hope-Net, a local organization that provides food to local food banks throughout the year. Their website is: http://www.hope-net.info/.
