Galadriel Mattei was raised in a small Northern California town. Her mother introduced her to basic sewing, beading and embroidery techniques at a relatively young age, which she continued to explore informally and avidly throughout high school. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she pursued a degree from UCLA in Fine Arts, majoring in Dance. She continued at UCLA, receiving an additional degree in Women’s Studies with specializations in History and Literature. After graduating, she decided to formally study fashion design and took courses at Otis. While working as a costumer and stylist for commercials, music videos, and print, she simultaneously began developing her own collection. Her line gained serious traction and attention when after cold-calling Barney’s New York, her Civil Watch Cap became a best seller. The collection continues to expand and is now carried in many boutiques throughout the U.S, Canada and Japan.
